Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon was somewhere I've always thought is beautiful and fascinating, but I never dreamed I'd actually get a chance to go there. To be honest, Iceland was never really on my travel radar until my husband brought it to my attention, and I'm so glad he did. Going to the Blue Lagoon was one of the highlights of our trip, and we went on a very special day - Thomas' birthday (in case you missed my previous post from his birthday). Thomas also requested that we get massages while at the lagoon; he's so generous to share his birthday treat with me. :)

We could see the steam rising off the Blue Lagoon as we approached on the bus, and we could smell the sulfur too. Luckily the smell seemed to disappear once we were actually inside, which was a relief. When we arrived we each were given a bracelet which was our locker key, charge card, etc for the duration of our stay - it was very convenient. We went in our separate locker rooms where we changed and were supposed to shower completely naked before entering the lagoon. Um, thanksbutnothanks. I rinsed off very thoroughly in my swimsuit, and ran outside to take some pictures before my toes froze and fell off completely.

Being in the lagoon was just so incredibly relaxing. It was an odd, but great, feeling to be in water that was 100 degrees Fahrenheit while the outside temperature was below freezing - and it was snowing! In the lagoon there were tubs of mineral rich mud that is collected from the rocks there, and they advise guests to put it on our faces for about ten minutes; it's supposed to be great for your skin and it felt really refreshing. One last random tidbit - the water in the lagoon is renewed every forty hours, which made me feel confident that it was pretty sanitary, even if rebels like us don't shower in the buff before getting in. ;)

26 Never Looked Better

I just wanted to wish my wonderful husband a very happy birthday! His request for the day was to go to the Blue Lagoon outside of Reykjavik, Iceland, and I was more than happy to oblige him. The views were spectacular, and we both got massages which made the experience even more relaxing. It was Thomas' birthday, but I think I definitely came out ahead on this deal. :)

Happy Birthday Shannon!

One of my BFF's (yeah, I said it) celebrated her 40th birthday recently, and since her husband was deployed we had to make sure and really celebrate! We had a nice dinner, complete with "Big Carl" the wineglass and Reese's pie for dessert - yum!

First Birthday Shenanigans

Baby Thomas turned one while I was home, and it was SO fun to be a part of all the celebrations! We had a family party on the actual night of his birthday, and then he had a bigger party that weekend. He enjoyed his first birthday cake, although he mostly ate the frosting - my kind of guy. :) He seemed to really love his presents, especially his toy phone, which he held up to his ear to talk on, and his broom set. He likes to help his mom clean! My sister-in-law Jamie, and her whole family, came into town for the birthday weekend, so we all got to celebrate together. Thomas' cousins Connor and Aaron loved helping him open his presents, and blow out his candles, they were a big help when Thomas couldn't quite do it himself.

Thomas' Birthday

Thomas turned 24 a couple of weeks ago, and boy did we party. Actually we went to bed at 8pm because he had to get up at 4am the next morning, but we'll pretend :) We carried his birthday into the next weekend (I learned how to drag out birthday celebrations from my Grandpa Keith!) and went into Cambridge to try a new restaurant that we both had heard good things about. It was a Portuguese Chicken place called Nando's, and we really liked it! We were really excited because there was a soda fountain where you get your own refills - yeah we're nerds, but it's rare to find unlimited refills around here!
